SEGUIN, Texas (October 16, 2025) — Conservative outsider Josh Cortez outraised both of his opponents combined in the third quarter, proving that Texans are ready for new leadership that stands with President Donald J. Trump and puts Faith, Family, and Future — and Texas — first.
State Representative John Lujan raised roughly $75,000 and Democrat John Lira brought in about $29,000, while Cortez raised over $160,000 — more than both Lujan and Lira combined.
“This campaign isn’t about holding onto a political title or borrowing someone else’s last name to get one,” said Josh Cortez. “I’m not part of the Austin establishment, and I’m not running on family name. I’m running as an experienced outsider to fight for the people of this district — to secure our border, grow our local economy, defend our Texan values, and proudly stand with President Trump to put Texans and America First.”
Cortez, an eighth-generation Texan and Guadalupe County native, launched his campaign the last week of August with strong grassroots support throughout the district. His fundraising success in September alone shows Texans are ready for an outsider with the backbone to challenge the insiders and deliver real results for South and Central Texas.
