SEGUIN, Texas (August 25, 2025) – Josh Cortez, a proud son of Guadalupe County and 8th-generation Texan, today officially announced his candidacy for Congress in Texas’ 35th Congressional District. The redefined 35th Congressional District empasses part of Bexar County and all of Guadalupe, Karnes, and Wilson Counties.

Raised in Guadalupe County and rooted in a family that has ranched the same South Texas land since 1773, Cortez brings a record of service, leadership, and deep commitment to the community. His campaign will focus on Faith. Family. Future. – always putting Texas First and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with President Donald Trump to secure America’s future.

“Growing up in a military family in the San Antonio region taught me the values of faith, hard work, and service,” said Cortez. “Those values will guide me in Washington as I fight to put Texans First and protect our families, our communities, and our future. In Congress, I will work to continue to secure our border and keep our communities safe, champion our oil and gas producers, ranchers and farmers so Americans never depend on foreign nations. Expand opportunities for Texans through community colleges and trade schools, and make sure our veterans and military have the full support they’ve earned. My promise is simple – every decision I make will be about strengthening Texas, standing with President Trump, and keeping the American Dream alive for the future generation.”

Cortez’s campaign will highlight key priorities that reflect the values of the 35th District and the needs of hardworking Texas families:

• Texas Jobs for Texans First – Build a stronger economy by empowering small businesses, supporting energy production, and working to ensure that Texans are first in line for job opportunities.
• American Energy & Food Independence – Champion local oil, gas, farmers and ranchers to ensure America never relies on foreign nations for our energy or food supply.
• Border and Homeland Security – Fight for a permanently secured border, protecting families from dangerous fentanyl, and restoring law and order.
• Expanding Opportunity – Increase access to affordable community college, trade, and vocational training so every Texan can achieve the American Dream.
• Support for Veterans & Military Excellence – Honor those who served, ensure that America maintains the strongest military in the world, and support military and civilian jobs at our region’s bases.
• Address the Region’s Impending Water Crisis – Work with local leaders and municipalities to get ahead of our rapidly depleting natural resources.

As a small business owner, entrepreneur, college professor, tech founder, and senior congressional staffer, Cortez has built a career defined by service and hard work. He previously played a pivotal role in flipping Texas’ 15th Congressional District, proving his ability to win tough fights and deliver results. He also campaigned for President Donald Trump in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he organized volunteers from across the nation to rally support and turn out voters in a critical 2024 battleground.
